About

Welcome to Clara’s Compass! My name is Clara Juliette, and this blog is dedicated to reflections on writing and travel. I chose the word “compass” because it wonderfully relates to writing, travel, and psychology. As a noun, it is the tool that helps navigators determine in which direction they are going. As a verb, it can mean to comprehend or to plot. It is my hope that through sharing these posts, we can explore storytelling and awe-inspiring locations together.

I believe stories have incredible powers. They can motivate us, show us different perspectives, make us think, and heal us when nothing else can. It feels so wonderful to come across a story that speaks to you, whether that story is told on paper, in song, on the screen, or inside our imaginations.

Travel is yet another thing that can enrich our minds. When I do venture to a new place, I love seeing how people of all cultures live their daily lives. Similarly, it is a delight to read travel blogs and vicariously voyage to the places so beautifully written about.

It is likely the majority of this blog’s travel content will be about Japan, a country that has captivated me since I was a child reading about my favorite artist, the French Impressionist Claude Monet, and his interest in Japan. His interest was so great that he created his own Japanese style garden at his residence in Giverny, France. Additionally, Disney World has always been a staple in my life, and it’s a place where imagination and creativity come to life in spectacular ways. I know planning a trip there can be difficult because there is so much to see and do, so I hope to provide some guidance on the fun things you can do on your visit.

Moreover, I am an avid consumer of psychology and tea. The brain is so complex and fascinating, holding our endless imaginations and creative pursuits. For introverts like me, it is a place we spend much of our time, which can be delightful at best and destructive at worst. And tea, in its many varieties, is just a lovely thing, and I am grateful for its presence in my life.

Other interests include learning for learning’s sake, cultures, languages, empathy, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (hello, fellow INFJs!), nature and flowers, music, sunshine, and cats. I’m sure these things will filter into this blog, whether consciously or unconsciously.

Thank you very much for reading, and I wish you happy perusing on Clara’s Compass!

Sincerely,
Clara
