The 2018 Food and Wine Festival at Epcot in Disney World served lots of delicious dishes at its many festival stalls throughout the park. Here were some of my favorite vegetarian-friendly dishes offered at the festival this year.
Table of Contents
Active Eats: Energy Bar Bites
The Active Eats stall provided information about how food converts to energy in our bodies, which I thought was a nice educational touch. The plate I got came with two bite-sized energy bar pieces made out of chocolate, nuts, dried fruit, and dates – foods bursting with vitamins and antioxidants. Each piece was topped with shredded coconut. These were rich and chewy and had a pleasant chocolate taste.
Belgium: Belgian Waffle with Berry Compote and Whipped Cream
As a cute Disney touch, the staff at the Belgium stall turned the waffle into a Mickey shape with two dots of whipped cream as the ears. You can get a waffle with either chocolate ganache or berry compote. I opted for the sweet berry topping with what appeared to be raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries.
Brazil: Pão de Queijo
I love all things bread, Brazilian cheese bread being no exception. Each dish came with two round cheese breads that had soft, chewy, cheesy centers.
China: Mango Bubble Tea
I am a big fan of bubble tea in general. These yummy drinks have tapioca pearls at the bottom and are served with thick straws so you can sip the tea and pearls (“bubbles”) all in one go. The bubble tea served at the China stall had an Assam black tea and milk base with a mango flavor. It was a bit too sweet for me since I like my tea bitter to complement the sweetness of the tapioca pearls, but it was still refreshing, especially since it was more than 90 degrees Fahrenheit out when I drank it.
Earth Eats: The Impossible Burger
The Impossible Burger was one of my favorite dishes of the 2018 Food and Wine Festival. The thick veggie patty was topped with a unique combination of wasabi cream, crispy slaw, and greens. I had never eaten a burger with those flavors before, and it was delicious. The wasabi lent just the right kick to it without being intensely spicy.
France: Crème Brûlée à la Confiture de Framboises
Though it doesn’t look like much on the outside, the crème brûlée at the France stall was quite tasty. It was creamy and sweet with a nice tart layer of raspberry jam on the bottom. Plus, it’s always fun to crack the sugary crust that forms on the top!
Germany: Apple Strudel
Who doesn’t love a good strudel? The one served in the Germany stall was full of sugary apples with a slab of vanilla sauce on the side. It was quite filling, so it’s a good one to cut in half and share if you still have other dishes ahead of you that you want to try. I was there at a good time – right after I bought the strudel, a group of three German men put on a very fun music show in the chalet next to the food booth.
India: Naan Bread With Pickled Garlic, Mango Salsa, and Coriander Pesto Dips
If you are in the mood for something really flavorful and packed with spices, head to the India stall. The dish had three thick pieces of naan bread and three dips: pickled garlic, mango salsa, and coriander pesto. Each dip was delicious. Since it comes with so many dips and bread slices, it is a good dish to share.
Ireland: Warm Irish Cheddar Cheese and Stout Dip With Irish Brown Bread
This dish also came with three pieces of bread, so it is another good one to share. Irish brown bread is tasty on its own, but was extra good dipped in the savory cheddar cheese and stout dip. There was a bit too much dip for the amount of bread given, but it was still a delicious snack.
Morocco: Hummus Fries With Cucumber, Tomato, Onions, and Tzatziki Sauce
This dish wins the award for most innovative dish in the festival. I was intrigued when I read that hummus fries were on the menu. I didn’t know if it would consist of fries with a hummus dip or hummus made into fries. It turned out to be the latter, and it was so yummy. It had big blocks of fried hummus topped with cucumber, tomato, onions, and a nice tzatziki sauce. The fried hummus was quite spicy, but the cucumbers and tomatoes were cooling.
Wine & Dine Studio: Butternut Squash Ravioli
I love butternut squash ravioli, so I was thrilled to see this on the menu, and it did not disappoint. The ravioli pieces were topped with brown butter vinaigrette, pumpkin seeds, and Parmesan cheese – a great combination of ingredients. The tanginess of the vinaigrette paired nicely with the sweetness of the butternut squash and savory pumpkin seeds. I hope it returns next year!
The 2018 Food and Wine Festival is on every day at Epcot now through November 12, 2018, so you have plenty of time to taste these yummy vegetarian dishes for yourself!
